Welcome We are pleased to announce the publication of the eighth edition of Crosscurrents, edited by Mark Charlton and Paul Barker. Since it was first published Crosscurrents has evolved into a series of three books: Contemporary Political Issues, International Relations, and International Development. For several years we have been asked to provide the debates from this series in a flexible format so instructors can pick and choose which ones they would like to use.

In this edition Nelson is pleased to present two formats of the text, each taking the most popular readings from all three of the Crosscurrents texts: the Editors' Choice and the Reader's Choice. In the Editors' Choice, our editors have carefully selected fourteen debates that span a variety of issues across the discipline, providing you with a topical collection of provocative essays and readings designed to stimulate discussion on Canadian and international politics. If you would prefer to select your own debates, you will want to consider the Reader's Choice. It allows you to select from our complete Crosscurrents database of debates, and gives you all the flexibility of a course pack without the hard work of putting one together.
